3rd Annual Buckeye Trailfest

The 3rd Annual Buckeye TrailFest is April 24-27th, 2014 at Camp Akita in Hocking County, Ohio.  A long weekend is planned with plenty of hiking, workshops, nature programs and outings.

Just a few of the workshops you can attend are about birding, native plant and tree identification, ecology, geology, astronomy, wilderness survival skills, backpacking basics, rock climbing and rappelling, kayaking, chainsaw safety, how to make a paracord bracelet, hiking with dogs and how to contra dance.

Stay for a day or for all three nights. Camp in Tent City, bring your RV or choose to stay in other accommodations at Camp Akita. Meals are available to purchase on site with your registration. All proceeds from the Buckeye TrailFest directly benefit the Buckeye Trail Association's mission to build, maintain, protect and promote the use of Ohio's State Trail. A very worthwhile goal if you love the outdoors like I do.

This annual event moves to a different part of the state each year so don’t miss out on the opportunity to enjoy the Hocking Hills area this year.

There is lots of variety. Besides the workshops there will be many guided hikes to different areas in the Hocking Hills and surrounding areas.  All of the nightly presentations are included in the cost of registration. There will even be a night hike and haunted hike of Ash Cave State Park.

Bring your family as kids under 10 are free. What a great way to spend quality time with your kids or grandchildren. I believe the love of the outdoors is learned at an early age. What better way is there to get the kids out and enjoy the fresh air? Sounds like a good time to get out the pie Irons and have some pizzas and follow it up with some S’mores over the campfire.
